What's the origin of your name?

My name comes from the Greek Christophoros which means "bearing Christ".

Legend says that Saint Christopher decided to serve the greatest king of them all. He went to a king who was thought of as greatest but left his service when he learned he feared the devil. He found some guy who claimed he was the devil and served him but then left his service when he saw him fear the cross. Then he tried to find Christ but only found a hermit who told him to serve Christ by helping people cross a river where most people perished. Saint Christopher was a strong man so he agreed.

One day a child asking him to be carried over, so he did. The problem was that the child weighted as much as lead when he picked it up and crossing the river was no easy task. When they reached the shore, he told the child that he was put in great danger as even the whole world could not be so heavy. The child replied saying that he had not only the weight of the world on his shoulders but Him who made it and introduced himself as His son, Jesus Christ.

Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travellers and I have the icon with him whenever I go for a long journey. Though I find it ironic he is sometimes represented as having the head of a dog.

Ask me anything
